We survived the night without a furnace -- our little space heaters really did the job. When I went to bed it had just barely started raining and I really wondered whether we were going to get any of the white stuff. But when I woke up, sure enough, the National Weather Service had gotten it right. Snow!
The boys were so excited. They rushed through their breakfast waffles, brushed teeth, and raced to put on socks, shoes, coats, hats, and backpacks. Last night they had said they wanted to DRIVE to school if it was snowing, but this morning all talk of that had vanished. They wanted to be out in it!
Rocket Boy and I walked down the driveway to avoid the snow (which wasn't sticking to the still-warm concrete), but the boys went right across the yard. They wanted to feel this stuff!
Down the street to school. So amazing to see school buses and garbage trucks, all going about their business as if this miracle wasn't taking place around them.
The field at school was COVERED with snow. It was easier to walk in than the usual dew-dampened grass. Some kids were even trying to make a snowman.
Baby A was first in line when it was time to go in.
Baby B usually likes to be at the front, but today he went further back, to stand next to his girlfriend. Their teacher always says "Good morning" to each student as they walk past her into the room, and I thought today she had to work a little harder than usual, peeking under each hood to see who was hiding there.
On the way home, Rocket Boy took this very attractive photo of me to show how badly I had dressed for the weather.
I had forgotten that snow is wet! And cold! Not very cold today, though. It's still snowing away, but it'll turn to rain before long, and I wouldn't be surprised if all traces of it were gone by this afternoon. It's supposed to be 71 degrees on Monday, so we still have a lot of fall left. Winter's not here yet.
But it's coming...
