I should be on my way to bed, but I thought I'd better post again first -- since the last post was pretty mopey. Now it's a week later and things are not really any better, but things were not really that bad last week either. I'm just tired and stressed, nothing new there. And January is over -- what a relief. February is such a nice little month, four little weeks, and a lot of chocolate.
One piece of good news this week: Pie Bear does not have ringworm! I am still celebrating that one and I believe you never knew that it was a concern. He's been losing his hair in patches and since he's never been much of a groomer, we didn't think it was caused by over-grooming or otherwise licking himself. The vet gave us a scare with the ringworm idea (apparently it's running rampant in Boulder County right now), but anyway he doesn't have ringworm. He probably has Cushing's Disease, which is bad, but not really any worse than what he already had -- diabetes. The Cushing's causes diabetes, at least I think it does. Also hair loss, thirst, hunger, whatever. We already knew Pie wasn't going to live to be 20. Now we have to give him melatonin to treat the Cushing's, in addition to twice-daily insulin. Whatever.
I finally got Kid B in to see his pediatrician and we learned to our surprise that he is low in iron, which can cause behavioral problems in children. We don't think that's the answer to all our troubles with him, but it is something to work on. Now he takes liquid iron (in juice) twice a day. He hates it, but takes it very diligently. Kid A has been on an antibiotic for 10 days now for an ear infection, but he finishes that up tomorrow. Don't know if Kid B will be so good about taking iron once Kid A is no longer taking anything. We'll see. I need to find a better-tasting iron supplement, which I am told exists.
Still ahead: a hearing test for Kid B and an "evaluation" by the behavioral health people. I don't even really want to write the word that he's being evaluated for, so I won't. I'm having a lot of stress about this.
My stomach is swollen up like I'm 6-8 months pregnant. I think it's a combination of fat and IBS. I poke at it, wondering. It swells up impressively after I eat anything, so that kind of indicates IBS. IBS gets worse and worse when you're stressed. Oh well, onward. We went to the mall on Saturday, let the kids run wild in the play area, and did some shopping -- new shoes for Kid A's ever-growing feet, new jeans for Rocket Boy, and I got some pants, two tops, and socks. We don't really have the money for new clothes, but at the same time we need new clothes. I really need a new winter coat, but keep thinking I can get along with what I have. Anyway, I made sure my new clothes had a lot of room for my stomach. So sad.
I had some photos to include in this post, but the boys took my camera.
It's maybe in their room, but I won't worry about it now. Need to go
take my shower and head for bed. Another long long long week ahead.
Rocket Boy took the boys swimming this afternoon so that I could get
work done. I made a to-do list (this is just prep work for my classes,
that's all -- never mind laundry, grocery shopping, bill paying, etc.)
with 15 items on it. I got 7 of them done while they were gone. So
that's 8 things that still have to get done -- and at least 4 of them
have to get done tomorrow. When? Who knows.
February blew in this morning with 5 inches of snow. But it's supposed to be in the 50s tomorrow. On we go.
